Frances Key
Frances Rae Key received a Bachelor's degree from The University of North Florida in 1976 with a minor in Early Childhood Education. She took additional coursework at Jacksonville University in English as a Second Language and the Montessori Method through the John Carroll Montessori Institute in Jacksonville. She taught elementary school, preschool, and middle school English from 1976-1986. From 1986-1996, she taught English as a Second Language with FCCJ and Lutheran Social Services. Music, particularly songwriting, had been a lifelong hobby, and she began writing songs of international goodwill after working in a refugee camp. In 1999, she formed The International Peace Performers Chorus, a multi-cultural performing group which has sung in support of numerous non-profit throughout Jacksonville approximately ten times per year. Ms. Key has written and produced a full-length musical and several CDs featuring the Chorus and her songs.
Ms. Key returned to teaching middle and elementary school from 1998-2004, using her original music as part of her teaching agenda. Recently, she passed the Music Content Area Exam for Duval County required for teacher certification. Ms. Key is happy to join the staff of the St Johns River City Band and looks forward to applying her years of experience in teaching and writing to enhancing the educational programs The Band offers to the community.
