ALL STAR
HIGH SCHOOL BAND

The St. Johns River City Band will develop the first Duval County All-Star Jazz Band during the 2008-2009 school year. The All-Star Jazz Band is open to Duval County high school students. High school band directors will train and audition at least 3 students. The final ensemble will have 20 musicians selected to perform at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival. Sight-reading skills are required.

Rehearsals will be held at UNF with performances in the late Winter and Spring. There will be Master classes throughout the year.

SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP

The SJRCB has partnered with the Duval County Schools for many years. River City Back Beat, our school ensemble, goes on-site to elementary schools with emphasis on schools in underserved neighborhoods. Student actors perform skits with River City Back Beat with the focus of character education, FCAT writing skills, or patriotism.

Master Classes are available for band students in middle and high school. The River City Brass Pack will perform and work with band sections on various instrumental and performance techniques.
