This is Brass With Class...

Under the Musical Direction of Michael Davis, the St. Johns River City Brass Band has been pleasing audiences on the First Coast, in Florida, and up and down the East Coast since 1985. This diverse group of musicians is just as proficient in performing Classical repertoire to Swingin' a Big Band hit. The St. Johns River City Brass Band has performed in various venues from Carnegie Hall in New York City to the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, with guest artists Chet Atkins, Rich Matteson, and Dave Brubeck, to name a few. The St. Johns River City Brass Band also serves Jacksonville elementary students in the Duval County School System by performing its Music For Young People concerts. These concerts teach K-5 students about different styles of music from Marches to Latin to Swing; about the job of a conductor;  about the teamwork of a band; and much, much, more.

American Sounds from and Earlier Time...

Military bands flourished early in the 20th Century with composers like John Philip Sousa and Henry Fillmore contributing to brass band literature. Towns had a community band that played for all special occasions in the town square. It is in that tradition that the St. Johns River City Cornet Band was born. This elite ensemble, under the direction of Dave Tuttle, is comprised of eight instrumentalists: trumpets, trombone, baritone, tuba, drum and flute...recreating the musical style that is identified as early "American Music" around the world.
